If you've turned on Launchy's update checking feature, you probably already knew this. If not, and you're reading this post, now you know!*
Launchy has been completely re-written from scratch using Trolltech's QT APIs, giving Launchy cross-platform support (Windows, Linux/X11, MacOSX, and soon, WindowsCE)!!!!
I hadn't heard of the QT initiative before today when I was looking at the new Launchy code (this rewrite has broken my easy key assignment hack, forcing me to code a solution :( ). Qt looks quite interesting and I will definitely be investigating it further.
Josh has thrown in some nice, new GUI features (and some functionality changes). One of the functionality improvements that I really appreciate is the better explorer path support. By simply typing in the regular path (using backslash), you can now easily navigate to your drive's folders as you can in Windows Explorer. The old method of using TAB to complete the path was clunky and foreign, in my opinion.
There are still a few default plugins to help with custom command creation (Runner), web surfing (Weby), and Calculator functionality (Calcy).
It's almost a year ago that I posted about the Launchy 1.25 update, and this little utility continues to be one of my favourite productivity tools.
If you haven't already installed it, there is no better time than now.
