Pimp your OS! (Part 1)

nLite

Finally, it's here! Pimp your OS, Part 1.

This screencast focuses on integrating the latest drivers, service packs, Windows updates, and hotfixes into your Windows XP (later, Vista) setup CD. Why would you want to do this, you ask?

By using a slipstreamed setup CD to install your operating system, you gain the following benefits:

  1. Your computer is protected from security vulnerabilities that are fixed in service packs or updates before your first boot
  2. There is no longer the need to provide special hardware drivers during installation  (SCSI, RAID, etc.). Those of us without floppy drives love this!
  3. All of my hardware works "out of the box"! No need to go through driver installation AFTER the OS setup is complete.
  4. I can create an exact, binary image of the physical CD, that I can reuse for physical media creation, archival, mount using 'virtual drive' technology, or mount in virtual machines for installations. I just love the fact that I don't have to search for the CD and that I can use the image in so many ways.
